Google telah mengusulkan kerangka kerja untuk mendiskusikan dan menangani keamanan sumber terbuka berdasarkan faktor-faktor seperti identitas terverifikasi, tinjauan kode, dan bangunan tepercaya, tetapi pendekatannya mungkin bertentangan dengan budaya sumber terbuka.
